When Hayley Radford and Wendy Windle joined forces to create Warhorse Theatreworks in 2007, they were united by one single vision of what theatre should be: an art form that is used to tell stories.  We have developed our creative vision by working together as freelance directors for over four years.  We believe that the future of theatre lies in companies embracing a style that sets theatre apart.  We believe in reinvesting in theatre as a magical art form.  Our work aims to engage the audience’s senses, hearts and minds.  Through play and experimentation with text and physicality we seek to unearth the driving passions that make bold and challenging theatre.

Performers’ Playground

Formed on the principle that all good actors need time to play, the Performers’ Playground is the bedrock of Warhorse Theatreworks.  Established in February of this year, the Performers’ Playground has quickly become a popular weekly workshop/ networking venue for a wide range of artists (over 300 have passed through our doors already).  The drop-in classes are different every week and led by actors with a skill to share; Butoh Dance, Suzuki Method, Clowning, Mask, Puppetry and more; or directors/ producers with an idea to test out with the help of our energetic and talented participants.  We have also attracted the notice of respected industry professionals: Pippa Bailey of Total Theatre Magazine recently work-shopped her new play with us.  It is through the Performers’ Playground that we have formed our Acting Ensemble and where we meet, train and explore together on a weekly basis.
